Bye Bye Randy! Moss To Don Purple Again

Posted By: The NFL Chick on October, 06 2010

Randy Moss is throwing up the deuces to the New England area this morning, as Patriots coach Bill Belichick sent the disgruntled WR back to the team that drafted him back in 1998.  ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Moss was traded to the Minnesota Vikings this morning, in exchange for a 3rd round draft pick.

Last night, myself and Pigskin Loving Lady talked about the then-possible trade on our Blog Talk radio show, which you can listen to by clicking here. While I’m sure we’ll hear many opinions and thoughts over the Moss trade, I’m going to add to the Armchair GM archives as well. As crazy as this trade may seem, it’s actually not. This was the perfect opportunity for both sides to part ways and not lose out on anything. The divorce seemed to be inevitable, with Moss saying after the Week 1 win over Cincinnati that he felt unappreciated and this would be his last year in New England, but not in the NFL.

So Bill Belichick did what he always does: He made moves. And in my opinion, it’s not a bad move. Here’s why:

First, Randy Moss was not playing to his potential so far this season. Moss’s totals for the entire year were as follows: 9 receptions, 139 yards and 3 TDs, over 4 weeks. This is dismal for a #1 receiver to have such low numbers through the 1st quarter of the NFL season. Terrell Owens beat out Moss’s totals in receptions and yards in one game alone. Moss had one great catch for the year, and that was the TD he caught on “Revis Island” against the NY Jets. But for the most part, fans and fantasy football owners were putting APBs out on Moss. Folks complained that Moss played lazy and was not blocking as he should have in the Pats big win over Miami on Monday night . Maybe Moss was over being a Patriot at that point. But he certainly didn’t give Belichick a reason to keep him around and re-sign him after the 2010 season.

Second, this is the perfect situation, simply because New England gets something out of the deal. Moss was in the final year of his contract. Letting him go as a free agent at the end of the season meant that the Patriots were going to get nothing for letting him walk away. Trading Moss to Minnesota for a draft pick allows the Patriots to be compensated for losing their big target, and letting Minnesota deal with his upcoming offseason demands. While many are saying a 3rd round pick is too low for Moss, I disagree. Moss isn’t the Randy Moss of 1998. He’s still a great asset, but he’s also 33 years old who has had his share of minor issues. A 1st round pick is out of the question, and a 2nd round pick would be a bit risky, especially for a guy who may choose another team to join in just a few months. A 3rd round pick is a perfect compensation for Moss. And being a draft wizard that he is, Belichick will make that draft pick worth it.

With the return of Wes Welker and the emergence of TE Aaron Hernandez, Moss became expendable. That being said, this trade instantly puts new life into the Vikings, and particularly Brett Favre, who has aged tremendously from just a year ago and is missing one of his targets in Sidney Rice (out with a hip injury). This also puts new life into Moss, who was unhappy with his contract situation. A guy that was once his rival, is now his teammate. What’s fitting is, the Patriots play the Vikings on Halloween, in Minnesota. Can you say, DVR?!

This trade works out for all of the parties involved. Many wishes to Moss in going full circle in his NFL career. Purple is his color anyway.

Browns Fans Charged $5 To……. Stand???

Posted By: The NFL Chick on October, 06 2010

You read it right. If you’re a Browns fan and ever want to set foot on a popular lot called, “The Pit” during game days, then be prepared to pay $5 for, what they consider, “pedestrian traffic”.

What’s even more disturbing is, they are already charging $30… JUST TO PARK THERE! And if you decide to keep on moving without paying the extra fee, you will have to deal with the Po Po. One comment on clevelandsaplum.com stated that he laughed and walked away when asked to pay the $5 fee. The attendant then called a couple of cops over to his group of 15, to confront them over not paying the fee. Basically, they aren’t playing when it comes to their money.

I understand that we are in a recession, but this is ridiculous. I don’t know if the Browns got the memo, but they aren’t even that good of a team to be charging folks in such a bad economy. Maybe if the product on the field had more wins under their belt, it would soften the blow of having to pay MORE money for something so foolish. Hopefully this gets enough feedback and uproar that they will change their minds about such an asinine fee.

Tuesday NFL Roundup

Posted By: The NFL Chick on October, 05 2010

When I watch the New England Patriots, they are still a team I can’t quite figure out. They’ve shown signs of greatness, and then they lose to the Jets. But alas, the signs of greatness showed up again last, when the Pats shellacked the Miami Dolphins, 41-14. The best part about the game was it wasn’t about Tom Brady, Randy Moss and Wes Welker. It was about all the other intangibles that makes a great football team. After last night’s game, the Patriots became the 1st team in NFL history to score TD via rush, pass, kickoff return, blocked FG and interception return in same game. Not that many of us are surprised, Bill Belichick is one of the great coaches of the NFL.

P.S.- Shout out to Patrick Chung for playing out of his MIND last night. Chung had a blocked punt, a blocked FG which was returned for a TD and an INT for a TD.

P.S. Part Deux- How funny is it that the Patriots official Twitter site talked a little smack last night? Quite damn funny to me:

Trying to find some good things to say about the Dolphins last night… Oh yeah…. Ricky Williams and Davone Bess did good! *shrugs*

Looks like the Tennessee Titans are in the “Hawaiian Peace Sign” business when they are upset about something. Nearly a year after Titans owner Bud Adams was fined $250,000 for waving his middle finger at Bills fans, Titans defensive coordinator Chuck Cecil did his own rendition, this time to the refs for an offside penalty against his defense.

First off, why is Cecil mad? It was CLEAR that his defense was offside. There were no ifs, ands or buts about it, the refs got the call right. Second, the announcer Kevin Harlen makes the funniest noise in regards to the flipping of the bird to officials. Cecil was fined $40,000 for the obscene jester. Now, I know coordinators don’t make a whole lot of money, so I’m sure $40, 000 probably hurt….. BAD! But there is a lesson to be learned. Never throw up the middle finger to officials.. especially when they are right!

Just when the Colts thought it was bad to have Bob Sanders out, it just got worse. Colts S Melvin Bullitt is out for the season, with a broken bone in his right shoulder. Bullitt ironically was the replacement safety for Sanders. Losing both guys on a team that’s currently ranked 24th on total defense is very ungood.

Mike Vick’s rib cartilage injury means the Eagles QB will be out for at least a week, which mean Kevin Kolb will get the start this weekend. RB LeSean McCoy is also hurt with a broken rib he suffered during Sunday’s loss to the Redskins. The Delaware Memorial Bridge will be on full alert for Eagles fans, looking to jump.

In other news, Pothead Santonio Holmes, Douchebag Ben Roethlisberger and Juice Head Brian Cushing have all returned to their respected teams. Vegas has opened up a new line, to see which player will be the first to relapse. Hurry before it’s too late!

Sitcho Azz Down, Brandon Marshall!!

Posted By: The NFL Chick on October, 01 2010

I swear, I think I’ve said this to Brandon Marshall before. But alas, I must say this again to the Dolphins WR. It seems that Mr. Marshall isn’t too happy with constructive criticism. On the new edition of the NFL Network’s “Playbook” show, Mike Mayock, Sterling Sharpe and Solomon Wilcots talk a little about Marshall and his play against the NY Jets this past Monday night. All 3 analysts implied that during the last offensive series in the Monday Night game, Marshall looked to be fatigued, and lost a bit of steam when the game was on the line.

Well, word got back to Marshall and he wasn’t too happy about being critiqued by the guys on the show. When told about the segment, Marshall had this to say:

“Those guys are players, former players. They never coached. So they need to continue to do what they do best and stop worrying about other things that they don’t know anything about.

“What those guys are saying, that’s just them trying to sound good and sound like they know what they’re talking about. … I don’t honestly think those guys were elite players, including Sterling Sharpe. I got to turn on the film and see what he was able to do. I know he’s done some good things, but from my understanding he’s not a Hall of Fame guy.”

WHOA KIMOSABE! Slow your role, tiger!

Did Marshall really just say that?! Poor Lil Tink Tink… They hurt his wittew feewings….

Apparently Marshall doesn’t know as much about football as I thought he did, so let me break it down real quick.

In 7 short seasons in the NFL, Sharpe was a 5-time Pro Bowler and a 3-time First-Team All-Pro selection. He lead the league in receptions 3 times, TDs two times and yardage once throughout his career.  And if Marshall didn’t know before, Sharpe did all of this while going into early retirement, due to njuries.

What has Marshall done, entering his 5th season? Oh nothing… just 2 Pro Bowl selections. Not to take away his accomplishments, but I think it’s safe to say that Marshall has a ways to go to even get on Sterling Sharpe’s level, let alone talk about him not being a Hall-Of-Famer.

Maybe Marshall didn’t get the memo. Those analysts are PAID to discuss their opinion on all things football, just like you are PAID to play the game of football. No need to take it personal. And if you do, talk to the men directly, don’t use the media as an outlet to spew bitchassness at people who are simply doing their job.

Brand Marshall, go Sitcho Bitter Azz Down!

Video: The Things Players Make Rookies Do………….

Posted By: The NFL Chick on September, 30 2010

Life is hard for an NFL rookies. You have to carry shoulder pads, pay $55,000 for your teammates during pranks and an abundance of other embarrassing things.

Ravens rookie DE Arthur Jones was caught on film doing the, “Dougie” in the Ravens locker room. His own teammate Fabian Washington caught it and sent it to all of his followers on his Twitter account. Whether or not Jones was forced to do such a stupid dance to entertain his veteran teammates is unknown, but if he volunteered such bufoonery, that makes it even more hilarious (or sad.. depending on how you look at it).

Players unwind and dance in the locker room on a regular basis. The TV show, “The Game”, even had an episode where the players were having a Dance Off. But in modern times where cell phones track everything, including video recording, what once was sacred amongst the NFL fraternity can now become public to us fans. Thank God for technology!

Video: Shaun Smith: A Package Grabber???? (Update)

Posted By: The NFL Chick on September, 28 2010

Just when I thought I heard it all, there are some weird allegations against Kansas City Chiefs DE Shaun Smith. 49ers Tackle Anthony Davis received a personal foul penalty in Sunday’s loss to the Chiefs. But it wasn’t because he was being aggressive or doing something bone headed, it was because he felt he was touched inappropriately by Smith.

“I think he got hit inappropriately,” Singletary said after the 49ers’ 31-10 loss to the Chiefs on Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium. “After a while, there’s only so much you can take. (Davis) was wrong for retaliating and he knows that.”

“He tried to feel me,” Anthony Davis said. “That’s weird, right?”

The penalty came at a bad time for the 49ers, who trailed 10-3 early in the third quarter. The 49ers had just converted a first down, but Davis’ penalty created a second-and-22 after the 49ers had gotten to midfield.

WTF?! To make matters worse, this isn’t the first time Smith has been accused of such antics. Browns C Alex Mack accused him for grabbing his man parts as well, saying he was still fired up about being violated. Mack allegedly chased Smith towards the Chiefs sideline due to his outrage over the incident.

While the thought of 2 fat lineman chasing each other on a football field is comical to me, I can’t believe this man has been accused of grabbing a man’s genitals, not once, but twice… IN ONE WEEK!  Someone needs to put a stop this NOW.. before Smith gets hurt. Grabbing another man’s privates is never a good look. Add a football field and adrenaline and it’s a recipe for disaster.

For some reason, the episode of The Game popped in my head when I saw this. The episode when Malik’s  gay teammate tried to “hit” on him. Maybe that show was closer to reality than we thought.

UPDATE: Here is the video of the ball grabber himself, against 49er’s Davis. GROSS!!!

Ryan Clark Takes A (Verbal) Shot At Ocho Cinco??

Posted By: The NFL Chick on September, 22 2010

Last night on Twitter, I saw Steelers S Ryan Clark asking (*cough*begging*cough*) for more followers. It seems as though Mr. Clark was looking for 10,000 followers for his page. (He should have asked his long haired teammate, Troy Polamalu. He rarely tweets, yet has 33K followers).

Clark started out his by having a simple incentive to following him:

What I found funny is that Clark followed up his tweet by giving reason why he may not be as successful as some on the social networking website:
Ryan Clark tweets

WHOA!!!!!

Of course, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out, Clark is possibly referring to the oh so boisterous, Chad Ocho Cinco of the Cincinnati Bengals, who is Twitter royalty and just finished showing his reality show, “The Ultimate Catch” on VH1. This actually may have had more steam, had Clark had more followers (at the current moment he has 12,602 followers, while Ocho Cinco’s page has 1,293,946 followers).

At least Clark surpassed his 10K mark like he asked…. I was uninterested in following him (The Ravens fan in me makes me petty like that), until I saw this tweet:
Ryan Clark tweets

Hopefully this applies to Steelers AND Ravens fans alike! *Hits follow button*

NFL Tuesday Round-Up

Posted By: The NFL Chick on September, 21 2010

Last night’s game between the Saints and 49ers was a great MNF game (Baltimore/NY Jets, are you reading this?!). That’s what fans expect for a MNF game. Excitement, nail biting and good football. But last’s night’s game didn’t come without injury. Saints RB Reggie Bush is expected to be out at least 6 weeks with a fractured fibula in his right leg.

MRI tests will be done today to confirm the injury. Keep ya head up, Reggie!

-Even being 0-2, I still expect the 49ers to win the division. Alex Smith grew up last night, something we expected to see from him 5 years ago, coming out of the draft. I guess it’s better late then never. I added Smith in my Top 20 QB list for 2010, so he better not make a fool out of me!

-Braylon Edwards was arrested for a DWI charge last night. According to the NY Post, here’s the skinny:

Jets wide receiver Braylon Edwards was busted on a drunken driving charge early this morning, after cops pulled him over on the West Side and found he had double the legal limit of alcohol in his system, police said.

Edwards, 27, was arrested at 5:15 a.m. and charged with DWI, after cops pulled over his Range Rover at 34th Street and 12th Avenue for having overly-tinted windows. Police said they smelled alcohol and Edwards blew a 0.16 on a Breathalyzer, or double the state’s legal limit of 0.08.

I guess Braylon was still teaching folks how to dougie like the day before in the Pats game. Except this time there was liquor.. and maybe girls… and with a car….. Just look at this mugshot, courtesy of WPIX in NY:

Looking like a bad Rick Ross impersonator. Go sitcho azz down, Braylon. And take that beard with you!

Braylon Edwards

-In other news, Kurt Warner made his appearance on Dancing With The Stars. He and dance partner Anna Trebunskaya came out swinging, doing the Viennese Waltz to start the season. If Warner can waltz NEARLY as good as he can Walk It Out, than he should be a Top 3 dancer when it’s all said and done!

Broncos WR Found Dead, Possible Suicide

Posted By: The NFL Chick on September, 21 2010

Denver Broncos WR Kenny McKinley was found dead, yesterday afternoon, by a female friend who found him after taking his child with her to run errands. Police believe the McKinley suffered from a self inflicted gunshot wound, thus ending his own life.

The irony of such a tragic event, is McKinley passed away the same day that Broncos CB Champs Bailey, former Broncos S John Lynch and other players attended a fundraiser that honored former CB Darrent Williams, who was killed New Years Day, back in 2007.

In addition to the deaths of McKinley and Williams, the Broncos have also dealt with the death of RB Damien Nash, who collapsed and died at a charity basketball game back in April, 2007… Three months after the Williams murder.

Prayers go to the family of McKinley as well as the Broncos organization. Dealing with suicide is never easy, especially when you think there is something you may have done to save someone’s life. And for the players who’ve been there to see all 3 tragedies, this can’t be easy for them to deal with.
