NFL Mid-Season Report Cards, The NFL Chick Edition

Posted By: The NFL Chick on November, 02 2011

It’s amazing how time flies. We’re already beginning the 2nd half of our beloved NFL season,  So of course, it’s time to see how your favorite team fared midway through the 2011 season. Only, instead of giving actual grades, I’m breaking them up in categories. Same analysis as ESPN, but better because it’s not so formal. So without further ado…. the midseason report cards.

F*ck It, I’m On One!: Green Bay Packers
Photobucket

The Packers deserve a column of their own. As far as NFL class goes, there’s the Packers and then there’s everyone else. No one is touching them right now and to be honest, I don’t know who will. Aaron Rodgers is playing like he’s possessed right about now. I like Green Bay but the little hater in me says they need to sit their bragging asses down somewhere. No reason why I feel that way, I’m just a little green and tired of seeing them win.

They Are Who We Thought They Were:  Pittsburgh Steelers, New England Patriots
Photobucket

The Steelers started out old and slow, but they’ve finally got the ball rolling. They’ve been on fire the past few weeks, and have picked up from last season, thanks to the emergence of guys like Mike Wallace and Emmanuel Sanders. The Patriots make this list because they’re still a team of concern if they’re on your schedule, but they can’t stop a nose bleed (Bart Scott voice) so unless they figure out to stop good teams, they may be in trouble….

Well I’ll Be John Brown (c/o @DragonflyJonez): Cincinnati Bengals, San Francisco 49ers, Detroit Lions, Buffalo Bills
Photobucket

I dedicate this category to my Twitter buddy, who always uses this term at the right time and better than anybody I know. Most of us looked at contenders for 2011 and didn’t think about any of these teams, for a lot of reasons. New players, lockout hangover, inconsistent or not good in years past…. for whatever reason, unless you were a fan of these teams, they simply weren’t on your radar. Well I’ll be John Brown if they aren’t now. The Bengals are 5-2 with a Top 5 defense and have shown success with Andy Dalton and AJ Green. The 49ers changed their coaching staff and brought in Jim Harbaugh and have only lost one game so far, even giving Alex Smith some life. And the Bills, who had every bounce against them in 2010 despite playing hard, are finally getting the ball in their court. The Lions are probably the least bit shocking, since they finished 2010 strong. But it’s the Lions…. you still haven’t forgotten about 0-16 and Matt Stafford gets hurt if you blow on him hard enough. Alas, no bad karma and all teams are doing big things

They’re Good, BUT……..: Baltimore Ravens, New York Giants, San Diego Chargers, Houston Texans, New York Jets, New Orleans Saints, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Atlanta Falcons
Photobucket

These teams have a winning record so they’re good based on record but we really have no idea what to expect for the 2nd half of the season. The Ravens have beaten quality opponents in Pittsburgh, Houston and the Jets, but have crapped the pot against teams they should have beaten in Tennessee and Jacksonville…… The Giants are decent, but their schedule the next 6 weeks is beyond brutal and one has to wonder will the injuries they have finally start to catch up….. The Chargers are actually starting out with a winning record for once, but QB Philip Rivers (my boo!) hasn’t looked like the Rivers of old, and fumbled control of the AFC West away last Monday night……. The Texans are good, but losing Mario Williams for the year and Andre Johnson for some time may hurt them in the long run…..The Jets have seemed to regress a little on defense, and Mark Sanchez not getting much help from his run game is an issue…..The Saints WERE in my “They are who we thought they were” column, but they lost to the Rams, The WINLESS ST. LOUIS RAMS, WITHOUT SAM BRADFORD! Yeah, they go down a notch after that one….. The Bucs have youth on their side, but their lopsided loss to San Francisco puts them in this category….. Atlanta always leaves me scratching my head at the end of their games. With all of the offensive weapons they have, I don’t see how they don’t put up 30 points easily, each week. They have some inexperience on defense that holds them to this category.

Ehhhhh……………..: Chicago Bears, Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, Kansas City Chiefs, Oakland Raiders, Carolina Panthers, Tennessee Titans
Photobucket

It’s not that I don’t think these teams are good or can’t be good… it’s just that I couldn’t add them in the “They’re good but” category because they’ve done something not worthy of that category. The Bears’ offensive line blocks like Cutler stole their girl……The Eagles started out slow, and with the “Dream Team” talk prior to the season, expectations were above normal so their 3-4 record is underachieving at best… The Cowboys need a TV time out with the way they’ve played football lately. I thought they’d be better than this at this point. I haven;t totally written them off, tho. They have talent….. The Chiefs started off rough (remember Matt Cassel’s blow up with HC Todd Haley on the sidelines??), but they’ve rebounded well. It’s the AFC West so it’s hard to be impressed just yet…..The Raiders looked like they were gonna have a good season before Jason Campbell went down. Oakland traded their 2012 #1 pick and a conditional pick to Cincy for Carson Palmer, but all Palmer did was stink it up in his debut. He’s not the same QB he was before 2005 and quite frankly, I wonder if Al Davis came back from the dead to make one last WTF personnel decision… Despite Carolina’s record, I’m gonna put them in this column because I seriously believe they try hard each and every week, yet fall short. This team reminds me a lot of Buffalo’s team last season. They hang in there, but can’t get the “W” in the end. I can’t be mad at that. They should be added in my next group but I love their resilience. The Titans are here by default, because they have a good record. But Chris Johnson got paid and told the Titans, “Fcuk your couch”. He’s still holding out but we didn’t know until now. With Kenny Britt going down, that hurt big time for Tennessee. Good thing is, the AFC South could be a 2-man race, and they’re still in it.

“Insert Comment Here”: Cleveland Browns, Seattle Seahawks, Jacksonville Jaguars, Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals, Washington Redskins
Photobucket

Face it- these teams’ style of play are boring and uninspiring more times than not (minus the Vikings the past 2 weeks. But that’s because Ponder now has the keys). Put yourself in my shoes…. What could you possibly say about any of these teams individually that doesn’t sound like the others in this group? Can’t figure it out? Me neither. So feel free to insert your own comment here.

Bad…. Real Bad Michael Jackson: Indianapolis Colts, St. Louis Rams, Miami Dolphins, Denver Broncos
Photobucket

I guess this group could be called the “Suck For Luck” lottery, but that’s unoriginal and overused at this point. These 4 teams stink and I’d bet my money on LSU or Alabama if they played any of these teams at this point. Probably the worst team of them all is Indy. Never have I seen a franchise fall so fast from one key player going down. That’s a direct reflection of the GM and ownership and it’s inexcusable. The Rams have some good pieces and aren’t AS bad as Indy (not saying much), but their defense isn’t that good, particularly their secondary (although they did hold NO to one offensive TD in Sunday’s win) and there isn’t a true #1 WR on the team. The Dolphins need a new makeover, period. Not only did you celebrate the FLORIDA GATORS championship in MIAMI HURRICANES-land, you let Tim Tebow beat you in the Final 5 minutes of the same game. Yeah, you suck, Miami…….. Speaking of Tebow, he is getting KILT in the media (yeah, I said it… not killed, but KILT!) on what most of us already knew: Great college player, lots of heart and passion, not going to translate into the NFL. It’s been a while since I’ve seen so much attention lay on one guy like this. Denver officially came into the Top 5 pick race as of Sunday.

Video: Football Talk With Falcons CB Dunta Robinson

Posted By: The NFL Chick on July, 22 2011

I had the opportunity to chat with Falcons CB Dunta Robinson this past weekend. Robinson talks about his youth team (the Athens Oilers), which joined Deion Sanders’ youth tournament, why he chose to invest his time in building and coaching a youth team (it’s the team’s 3rd year), what’s the deal with his Atlanta Falcons, and why the South Carolina Gamecocks will make it back to the SEC Championship…………………….

God bless his spirit……..

In any event, Robinson’s interview was a good one. He’s a good CB and even better person. I wish him nothing but success in 2011….except when it comes to his Gamecocks going to the SEC Championship. #Gators

Video: Deion Sanders Hosts Youth Tournament + Red And Black Gala

Posted By: The NFL Chick on July, 20 2011

This past weekend, Hall Of Fame inductee Deion Sanders hosted his 2nd annual youth football tournament, along with former Ravens/Browns RB Jamal Lewis, in Atlanta, GA. Teams from Dallas, TX, Baltimore, MD, Atlanta and Athens, GA took part in the weekend of football games that were separated in 3 age groups (10 and under, 12 and under & 14 and under). Sanders’ TRUTH team from Dallas, TX was there to represent.

During the tournament, I was able to sit down and have a conversation with Primetime. While the interview was great, it’s extremely hard to hear him due to his soft spoken demeanor (who knew?!).

Here are a few tidbits from his interview that are hard to hear:

On his reason behind the youth tournament:

I gotta reach [out to the youth], I gotta touch them, I gotta inspire them… hopefully to motivate them to get educated and to just dream….I think it’s a direct result of us [as adults], we stopped dreaming… we gotta get back to the roots, the basics, the core…and start spending time and loving [the children].. to let them know, they can make a difference

On the teams to watch for the 2011 season:

You have to fall back on the teams that faired well from last year… you gotta love New England  because of Tom Brady, the Pittsburgh Steelers are always gonna be there as well as Baltimore in the AFC and I can’t sleep on the New York Jets…. when you move over to the [NFC], I like New Orleans…. Tampa Bay came out strong…the Atlanta Falcons, I always save the best for somewhat last and I cannot discount, the Dallas Cowboys

On a take your pick segment that I quizzed him on:

Nnamdi/Revis: I like Revis… he dominates and plays both sides of the field

Andre Johnson/Calvin Johnson: Andre Johnson, and it’s not even close. Calvin is a young, grown man who’s coming on strong, But Andre is a grown man already… one of the better receivers of the game

Chad Johnson/Chad Ochocinco: I like Johnson. Johnson put up better numbers than Ochocinco. Ochocinco is my boy, I love him….but when Chad Johnson was Chad Johnson (pauses) Whoo… he was on.

T.O./Randy Moss/Plaxico Burress: Plaxico ain’t even in that conversation. I love him… but, T.O.could go down in history as one of the greatest to ever play the game. Randy Moss, WILL go into the Hall Of Fame one day and statistically is one of the greatest receivers to ever play the game.

Sanders also hosted a Red and Black Gala, to celebrate his Hall Of Fame induction. Those that came to celebrate his honor were NFL Network’s Jamie Dukes, Chilli from TLC, MLB player Brian Jordan and Keith Sweat, just to name a few. Sanders walked the red carpet with his gorgeous wife, Pilar. The event was a success, ending the night with Sweat serenading the audience with his old school hits (don’t judge me, I was amused!).

Random Thoughts From NFL Draft Weekend

Posted By: The NFL Chick on May, 03 2011

This past weekend I had the great opportunity to attend this year’s NFL Draft at Radio City Music Hall. It was an experience that I will never forget for so many reasons. While I took the time to cover the draft from a media perspective, I also walked around and hung out with the fans a little bit as well. Getting a view from different ends of perspective was extremely interesting- so much so that I put my ADHD-based mind to work. Here are my random thoughts from my experience at this weekend’s draft.

-I’ve never been to the actual draft in years past, so I can’t compare whether or not the fan interest has slacked off due to the lockout. But I will say this. The vibe at this year’s draft was electric. I anticipated folks being aloof because everything this offseason has been nothing but legal crap. But fans were everywhere. They still lined up days before the draft and they were all over the place within blocks of Radio City Music Hall. The TV ratings may have went down from last year, but not the fan participation at the actual event.

-NFL Draft Queen. Ever heard of her? Neither did I, until I actually met her. Her dress pretty much tells her entire story. Every year, she comes to the draft and makes signs for the players in attendance. She’s very well known amongst the NFL circle… so much that she decided to give me a newsletter- yes, a NEWSLETTER- about her. Check out the quick interview I have with her.

-Random thought: I still have yet to figure out why Roger Goodell was the big bad villain during draft weekend. Everytime he came to the stage he was booed profusely. But how much power and/or influence does the commissioner have in the lockout situation? Correct me if I’m wrong, but shouldn’t we be turning our anger towards the Al Davis’s, Jerry Jones’s and Dan Snyder’s of the league? After all, the owners are the ones that locked them out, not commissioner Goodell.

-I don’t know where Von Miller and Nick Fairley bought those glasses from, but they need to take them back ASAP. Steve Urkel was NEVER cool, except when he turned to Stefan Urquelle, and even then he lost the glasses. If they actually do need glasses, it’s time to ditch the bi focals and get some contacts.

-Did Jacob The Jeweler have an NFL Draft day special on watches? Because almost every player had a watch on that made me go

That’s how icy they were. Of course, the question of the night was how did they even get a watch like that when they haven’t signed a contract yet. But I’m gonna leave that alone………………………………………………….

-Day One of the draft is all about the politics. The production, the players in attendance, the Hall-Of-Famers, etc is ALL about making the NFL look a certain way. But Day Two of the draft was my favorite day. Much more laid back and fan friendly without the extra BS. Anytime you have Bud Light VIP section in the mezzanine giving out free beer and encouraging drinking contests, you KNOW that it’s night and day between the two days. It was pretty awesome, I must say.

-I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Ryan Mallett is the best pure QB in this year’s draft class. And yes, that includes Cam Newton, who I believe is the better overall athlete, but not the better QB. While Cam has dealt with tons of adversity and was welcomed with boos, he was still chosen #1 overall. Mallett didn’t get scrutinized as loud as Newton, but his draft status was hurt tremendously because of accusation of drug abuse as well as other issues. I will say this- he landed in the perfect situation in New England. He’s on a team that he can learn and grow on, and possibly be the successor of a future HOF in Tom Brady. I hope Mallett kicks every ass of the QB-starved teams that passed on him, when it’s all said and done.

- I don’t know why Atlanta felt the need to give up so much to get Julio Jones, but I hope that it works out for them, because they sold their souls to get it. Most people will agree that the Falcons gave up way too much for a player that wasn’t even a pressing need on their team. What they should have been doing was bolstering up their defense, which was embarrassed against the Packers in the divisional playoff game. Cleveland had an excellent draft, and they have the Falcons to thank for that.

-The media can ask the world’s dumbest questions sometimes. In the interview room, the best questions of the night came from a little kid with a Jets yamaka on his head.

I’m not sure if that’s cute, or just embarrassing. We, as media, need to do a better job.

-Twitter is a great way to keep up with the latest news in real time, but sometimes it can really kill the suspense and excitement of things. There used to be a time when people sat on the edge of their seats waiting for who would be the next pick of the draft and liking the suspense that came along with it. But if you were on Twitter this year, you knew who was gonna be drafted well before the commish even came out to announce it. It took the element of surprise away. With so many analysts and reporters trying to give the scoop first, they reported everything before we could even have a chance to digest the last pick. It was so annoying that I eventually logged off just to get back into it. I love Twitter and all of the good that comes with it, but that was one time I wished I wasn’t on it.

-If you are a huge NFL fan, I think you should go to the Draft at least once in your life. Sports is the one thing that people of every background can relate to and congregate together for. It’s definitely something that unifies everyone with that same common interest. With the players red carpet outside, to seeing your favorite analysts sitting on their platforms at work,  is something that you can enjoy, especially if you are a college football fan. To be able to talk amongst other fans of other teams about what their squad can do to get ready for a playoff/super bowl run or even a chance at getting to .500 is one that you can enjoy.  If you’re a casual fan you may as well turn around because this isn’t for you. This event is only for the diehards and stans, and it’s something you’ll appreciate the most.

Video: Divisional Playoff Weekend Picks

So my good friend Steelergurl (yes, we are friends even though we are frenemies come Saturday) asked me to take part in her video for this weekend’s picks for the Division round of the NFL Playoffs. I was more than happy to be a part of voicing who I think would win this weekend’s matchups (in case you were wondering, I’m at the 4:35 mark). Of course, she gives her picks as well, with other folks along the way. But she and I just so happen to be the cutest ones in the bunch (it’s true!).

Stadium Reviews- Georgia Dome

Posted By: The NFL Chick on November, 18 2010

In addition to being a football lover and an armchair QB, I like to attend games regularly. I’m on a quest to attend all 31 stadiums (Remember, the Jets and Giants share a home). I’ve recently started going on my Away Game Tour a few years ago, and I have to say I’ve enjoyed all of my experiences so far. This is the first of the many reviews of stadiums that I’ll give. Hopefully this will be helpful to all football fans in their future travels to support their favorite team on the road.

Last week, I travel to the ATL to watch my Ravens lose in the last seconds to the Atlanta Falcons. But my experience was a good one. With a capacity of 71, 228, the location is in downtown Atlanta, convenient to just about any place you want to get to. Midtown is only a few miles away. Tons of hotels, restaurants and the CNN Center are all in arms reach.

Most away fans flocked to two establishments in particular. Stats on Marietta St NW and TacoMac, right near the Dome. If you’re looking to meet up with your team’s fans, these two places seemed to be packed with the visiting fans. I went to both places for a pregame tailgate and I have to say, I was surprised by how many Ravens fans were there.

Buying tickets for the Falcons game were relatively easy. Stub Hub and Ticketmaster had an abundance of tickets that were not overpriced, and it made the trip very friendly for planning an away game trip. Once I got there, I also learned that fans could buy tickets on Groupon, the popular website that offers big discounts for services and events. The stadium was not fully sold out and if you have a strong fan base, it’s not a surprise to see just as many of your team’s fans in the stadium, as I saw last Thursday night. If I had to guess on how many Ravens fans were there, I’d say it was was about 1 Ravens fan to every 4 Falcons fans. The home team has to do better.

The Falcons have a slogan that has really stuck to the fans and the city. It’s a “Rise Up” Campaign, which features Samuel L. Jackson.

I thought it was pretty cool to have a Jackson as a part of it. It excites the fans and gets the stadium going. They play it pretty regularly but it wasn’t annoying, which is how I feel about the Miami Dolphins TD song (I’ll get to that in another review that I’ll write, later on). I actually enjoyed it when it came on. Kudos to the Falcons for picking such a catchy phrase that fans can enjoy and relate.

The musical selection was just okay…. not awful, but not great either. It had its good moments but there some selections that didn’t quite go with the atmosphere. Also, the PA announcer sounded like an announcer from a cheesy, run down strip club. Call me petty or anal, but it was weird. At times instead the offense being called out, I was looking around for Sexy Lola to take a stage.

One thing that I noticed and thought was bizarre, was the arrival time of the Falcons fans. The game was set to start at 8:20, but at game time only half of the stadium was full, mainly with Ravens fans. When I asked about the tardiness of fans, I was told that Atlanta has a tendency to be a “East Coast Hollywood” type of city, and they come fashionably late. The stadium didn’t become fully packed until nearly the end of the 1st quarter, with tons of seats still remaining empty throughout the game. Coming from a city with deep history roots and having a full house 20 mins before kickoff, this was baffling to me, to say the least.

Lastly, I’m not going to say that Falcons fans are fairweather, but I do have to question some folks fandom. When the Ravens scored the go-ahead TD with 1:05 remaining in the 4th quarter, tons of Falcons fans made their way to the exit. One could say that they were trying to beat the crowd and get to their cars, but I say otherwise. Some fans looked defeated and seemed to get out of dodge due to the score. Maybe they didn’t know what I do, that Matt Ryan is playing high quality football and that 1:05 is way too much time to give a good team like Atlanta, who had moved the ball against Baltimore all night. I’m not sure if those same fans ran back to their seats after the Roddy White TD, but I’d be willing to bet they did. C’mon man….. stick around. It’s the NFL. You never know what can happen!

Overall, my experience in Atlanta was a good one. My hotel was in walking distance of the stadium, so I didn’t have to deal with traffic. And for the most part, the fans were nice with the exception of a few (I had a man tell me he wanted to throw me over the balcony), but what fan base doesn’t have bad apples? I’d definitely go back, because of the convenience of purchasing tickets and the friendly cost of the trip.

The Atlanta Falcons and the Georgia Dome get a B- from me. ‘Til next time, Atlanta! It’s been real.

Week 10 NFL Picks

Posted By: The NFL Chick on November, 11 2010

This week, we start with Thursday Night Football, so I have to get my picks in early today. The players don’t like it, and neither do I. I need a full week to fully think who I’d like to pick for my games. But, alas…. I must do what I have to.

The Ravens take on a Falcons team that is rolling at 6-2. While their defense is currently ranked 21st overall, they are currently ranked 3rd in interceptions, with 13. Joe Flacco has only thrown 1 INT since his 4 INT debacle in Cincinnati, so this surely is a test for the 3rd year player.

Baltimore comes to town pretty average all the way around. They have the 14th ranked offense with the 9th ranked defense, but has been able to find ways to win majority of their games. The Falcons boast a 5th ranked offense, which is surely to give the Ravens secondary something to think about.

One injury that may affect this game- the knee injury of Falcons WR Roddy White. Whether or not he plays can have a major effect on the how this game sways.

All that said, both teams have to adjust to the short week. It’s hard for a team to play with such little time to prepare. And it’s no easier for the opposing team coming to town, because they lose that one day of practice. I still think this game will be good, but I’m giving this one to the home team, because they get just a little more time to prepare than the Ravens

Winner:

Lions at Bills (-3)- I would normally pick the Lions. But since they’re on their 3rd string QB and just signed a reject kicker, maybe this is the Bills chance to win one. If not… this is the last week I’m picking them for the rest of the season!

Winner:

Vikings (-2) at Bears- Still not sold on the Bears. And despite the Vikings hating their head coach, they will continue to play hard for each other.

Winner:

Jets(-3) at Browns- The Browns are playing solid football. The Jets barely escaped Detroit with a win. But they did…. and they are more talented than Cleveland on both sides of the ball. Braylon Edwards has been dreaming about what to do if he scores in his return to Cleveland. Maybe he’ll stop doing the Dougie this week. Who knows……

Winner:

Bengals at Colts (-7)- The Bengals are full of mistakes. The Colts are banged up. I have no idea who to pick. Oh,wait… yes I do. I already said I’m no longer picking Cincy. Process of elimination.

Winner:

Titans (-1) at Dolphins- The Dolphins are at home. So you know what that means. Another L to go with the rest of the home losses they’ve gotten this season

Winner:

Panthers at Buccaneers (-7)- The Panthers would probably be beaten by my son’s Pop Warner team. It’s sad, actually….. John Fox is slowly counting the days when he’s put out of his misery, similar to Wade Phillips. It’s coming, Johnny… hang in there.

Winner:

Texans at Jaguars (-1)- I expected more from the Texans than what I’ve seen so far. Maybe they aren’t ready to turn the corner yet. On the other hand, Jacksonville is a mystery. One week they get blown out, the next week they are the ones doing the blowing out. Help me out here, which team are you?! I’m going with the home team, even though only 10 people will be there to see it.

Winner:

Chiefs(-1) at Broncos- The Broncos have no fight in them. That being said, maybe they grew some balls during their bye week. I’ll play along, I need an upset pick anyway.

Winner:

Cowboys at Giants (-14)- SMH…. First Romo, now this…..Let us send a prayer to the football gods for John Kitna and what’s about to happen to him in the Meadowlands. The QB Killers AKA The Giants D can smell the blood in the water and they are ready to attack

Winner:

Seahawks at Cardinals (-3)- Yawn………………… I’m bored just looking at this matchup. Does anyone actually care??? Okay, well since it’s on here, I guess I’ll choose someone

Winner:

Rams at 49ers (-6)- I still don’t know what to make of this 49ers team. But I love the fight in the Rams.

Winner:

Patriots at Steelers (-5)- New England lost to the Browns, but the Steelers are banged up pretty bad. I think Pittsburgh is the better team, but I have to wonder if the injuries they have will be enough to fight off New England??

Winner:

Eagles at Redskins (-3)- Vick vs McNabb, unless Shanny and Co pull the plug on this too. The Redskins have too many issues, while the Eagles are flying high after beating the Colts. I gotta go with the hot hand.

Winner:

Bye Week: Green Bay, San Diego, Oakland, New Orleans

Thursday Night Football Has Returned!

Posted By: The NFL Chick on November, 11 2010

Thursday Night Football in the NFL is back! For the 3rd consecutive year, the NFL Network will start their “Thursday Night Football” games on their channel, as the Ravens head to Atlanta to take on the Falcons in what should be a great matchup.

Here are a few important storylines about tonight’s game:

Flacco vs. Ryan

This is probably the most highlighted story line of the game. Ravens QB Joe Flacco takes on his 2008 NFL Draft classmate Matt Ryan in their first game together. Their NFL stories  are very similar.

Ryan (aka Matty Ice) was the 3rd overall pick in the ’08 draft and was brought in to help turn the Falcons around after a disastrous 2007 season (lowest point of 2007- Falcons coach Bobby Petrino leaving before the season was over to become coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks). The 2008 season turned into a good one, finishing the with an 11-5 record and a playoff berth. Two years later, the Falcons are sitting atop of the NFC South at 6-2 and looking to make a serious playoff push.

Flacco was the 18th overall pick in the same draft and also came into a Ravens organization that was rebuilding after a tough 2007 season (the lowest point of 2007- losing to a winless Miami Dolphins team in OT). Flacco instantly had success in Baltimore and the Ravens also finished with an 11-5 record and made it as far as the AFC Championship Game. The Ravens also boast a 6-2 record and at the top of the AFC North division.

Prime Time Recognized

Deion Sanders, or more affectionately known as “Prime Time”, will be added to the Falcons Ring Of Honor during halftime. Sanders was the 5th overall pick for the Falcons back in 1989. He played for the Falcons from ’89- ’93.

While most opposing teams hate to be a part of any “Homecoming” halftime festivities, the Ravens shouldn’t care much, as Sanders joined Ravens in 2004. Sanders played with the Ravens for his 2 final seasons before hanging up his cleats for good. Sanders is now an analyst at NFL Network.

I’m a big fan of Prime Time, and I’ll be in attendance for the game tomorrow. So I’m excited about what the Falcons may have in store for him during halftime.

DX Will Be At The Georgia Dome

You read that right! I’ll admit, I was once a BIG time WWF fan (yeah, I know it’s WWE now, but I haven’t watched since the name change). So when Falcons New Media producer Jay Adams tweeted that the Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels and Triple H would be attending tomorrow’s game, I let out the biggest groupie shriek known to woman. I loved D-Generation X back in the day, so this is right up my alley. A football game with my favorite team and my favorite wrestlers is a Win-Win for me!

So who am I picking to win??? Come back and see me now, ya hear… I’ll have that game and others later on today
